Groatie Buckies

Groatie Buckie Chocolate Bar

One of the must do activities when you are in Caithness is to look for Groatie Buckies. I have done this since I was a child, combing the beaches to find this beautiful wee treasure. The name Groatie Buckie comes from ‘John O’ Groats’, where these little shells are said to be common and Buckie from the Old Scots for the shell of a whelk or mollusc. Two species are found in Caithness – the European cowrie which has three brown spots and the Arctic cowrie. I love these lucky shells so much that I made a chocolate version of them! You can buy my Groatie Buckie bar in the online shop.
